What is the Residence Status “Business Manager”?
The residence status “Business Manager” is a qualification granted to foreigners who manage or operate businesses in Japan, based on the Immigration Control and Refugee Recognition Act, Table 1-2. By obtaining this qualification, you can legally conduct business activities in Japan.
Requirements for Acquisition and Renewal
Business Office Requirement
A business office for conducting the business related to the application must exist in Japan. Even if the business has not yet started, it is required to have a facility secured in Japan for use as a business office.
Business Scale Requirement
- A: In addition to those engaged in management or operation, there must be a full-time employee residing in Japan.
- B: The total value of assets used for the business must be 30 million yen or more.
Japanese Language Ability Requirement
It is necessary for either the person managing the business or someone engaged in the business to have the ability to understand and use Japanese independently at a high level. Additionally, the applicant is required to reside in Japan while engaged in the management or operation of the business.
Educational Background or Experience Requirement
- A: Possess a doctoral, master’s, or professional degree in a field related to business management or the technical knowledge required for the business related to the application.
- B: Have more than three years of experience in business management or operation.
Compensation Requirement
When engaged in management, it is necessary to receive compensation equivalent to or greater than that received by a Japanese person engaged in the same role.
